LIV Chats To…Interior Lover Nina About Her Beautiful Monochrome Home
This week we're chatting to nina from @nina_moves_in - her style mixes monochrome Colours and scandi accessories.
I opened my account once I found out that my new apartment was going to be delayed by 8 months! I was so gutted, but decided to put all my excitement and new home energy into documenting the progress instead.
I began by posting about purchases and chosen colour palettes, and slowly my account grew into a full-blown influencing platform. I have been super lucky to work with some amazing brands over the years, including Dunelm, Dyson, Bedfolk, Whitemeadow and Rustoleum. Being able to focus my time and efforts on my page during the lockdown periods was a lifesaver, as we all had a lot more time on our hands that we didn’t know what to do with.
My home is a two-storey apartment based within a Grade II listed building. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open plan living space. I completely fell in love with the 2.5-metre-high windows, vault ceilings and original features.
My style has dramatically changed over the years, but I love to see it! It shows growth and maturity within my preferences, so I look back with fondness (with a hint of cringe!).
I started out being obsessed with pale pink and dove grey – anything and everything I owned was either one, or both, of these colours. Very girly and pastel-chic. I then progressed into my monochrome phase; introducing black, white and dark greys. At this point, I slowly phased out the pale pink and grey. I’ve never been one for bright and bold colours – it just doesn’t suit my comfort zone; however, I love drooling over other adventurous, colourful home accounts!
My current colour palette and styles truly have my heart – neutrals really are life! There is something so clean and calming about it, and the simplistic styling helps me keep a tidy mind! I really hate clutter, it makes my surroundings feel chaotic. I love everything to have a home and a purpose. Even everything on the inside of my kitchen cupboards has minimal storage jars and individual labels – I’m addicted to being organised. Typical Virgo!
My top tips would be:
Keep your styling to a minimum, and try to avoid bulks of clutter. It’s so easy to ‘over style’ a space and it ends up looking too busy. I created a ‘Guide’ on my IG page to help with coffee table styling and placement. The same rules generally apply to all surface areas of our homes, so hopefully this will help some of your readers that may be looking for guidance.
Keep your walls neutral, then warm up with furniture, accessories and textiles. This way, you can change the styling and placement regularly, so that nothing becomes boring or uninteresting to look at. I must change my coffee table styling at least once a month.
Use a variety of textures and materials to create layering around your home. This keeps spaces stimulating, and contrasting of one another. For example, I have used linen, bouclé, faux fur, marble, rattan and wood in my living area.
I recently bought four cane armchairs and a round marble dining table; they are honestly the light of my life right now. I’ve had images, similar to them, pinned to my Pinterest board for months, but it took some time to save up and ensure I could find the right ones.
The chairs were a golden find on Facebook Marketplace. It was a furniture supplier that had too much stock and needed to find new homes for them. You have no idea how quickly I jumped in my car and drove to collect them!! Then the Arabascato marble table top was sourced from a local marble and granite merchant.
Wish list wise, I’d love a new sofa. The dark grey has been with me since I moved in, but it’s the only thing left to turn over to the neutral side. I’m hoping to get this pretty soon, so watch this space!
